About Us
The Math Solution is Unique.
At The Math Solution, our mission is to provide high-quality, personalized Algebra and Pre-Algebra tutoring that builds foundational math skills, strengthens problem-solving abilities, and empowers students.
We accomplish this by helping students bridge arithmetic and mathematics using real-world applications. While arithmetic deals with concrete numbers, mathematics often utilizes variables (e.g., x, n) to represent relationships generally. We support students transitioning from concrete numbers to abstract concepts and operations required for higher-level math. Add in our learning platform, which gives the tutor super power-like vision on students and their work, and we have a recipe for success.

Our Math Dream

We envision a world where students feel capable in math, see themselves as problem-solvers, and are no longer held back by fear or frustration.
We accomplish this by providing students with regular and timely feedback on their written work and process, by normalizing mistakes to reduce stress, and by helping students understand the meaning or significance behind a solution.
Meet Your New Math Teacher
Since receiving his credential in 2012 from the California State University system, Mr. David has worked in both Middle School, where he developed a solid understanding of teaching students foundational skills, and High School, where he taught students with a wide range of abilities. After teaching in California public schools for 13 years, he pivoted away from the grading relationship with students in a classroom environment to focus on the part of the process he loved most: engaging students in the learning process. Through online tutoring with individuals and small groups, he is able to help students achieve greater success in a shorter amount of time than can be accomplished in a typical full-classroom setting.
When he’s not preparing for tutoring sessions and supporting students, Mr. David enjoys spending time with his wife and two sons. He skis in the winter, flies stunt kites in the spring, and bakes sourdough bread year-round. His favorite math topic is prime numbers, which he loves to talk about with anyone who will listen.

Our Philosophy
Every student is capable of learning. Period.
However, some students may face hurdles when trying to learn Algebra that must be addressed. A few examples from my own experience working with students are:
Some students lack familiarity with basic math facts. This can make solving problems more difficult (especially when there is a strict time limit, such as on quizzes or tests).
Some students lack confidence in their ability. When students have internalized a belief that “I’m just not good at math” or “math is too hard”, it can become a self-fulfilling prophecy.
Some students focus on memorization rather than understanding. Many students focus on memorization rather than understanding. For some students, this can be helpful. However, many students get tripped up when the material they memorized looks very different from the problem they are confronted with on a quiz or test. Students who learn to recognize patterns and different ways to solve are more likely to excel in the long term.
Through repetition and review, these issues, and others, can be addressed. Students are given the opportunity to return to familiar concepts in new ways. This reinforces skills, deepens understanding, and helps students form lasting connections with the material. In this way, students build both confidence and long-term retention — giving them the courage and insight to approach unfamiliar problems.
